How to choose a great graphics card?

To choose a good budget graphics card you must know the following things:-

1. Your budget: If you have a budget of $100, then see if your processor will bottleneck your graphics card or not. For example if you have a processor that costs $200 and you are combining it with a $100 graphics card, surely it won't bottleneck your gpu but you are limiting the power of your CPU. Similarly if you are combining a $50 CPU with a $500 GPU, then you are bottlenecking your GPU.  You must have a good balance between them. Keep a simple rule in your mind: The price of your GPU must not be more than double the price of your CPU. Like, if you use a $100 CPU, then use a $200 GPU. It will be a perfect match.

2. Generation: Make sure that you always select the graphics card from latest generation or you will hinder the performance in games. Most of the latest games run better on newer graphics cards than on a graphics card which is older than 3 years. Newer graphics cards are also power efficient. Some of the good budget graphics cards don't even use an external power source however their performance is better than the previous generation cards which used external power source and costed more.

3. Define your Goal: Yes, it's very important. Define your goad first, what you want to do? Do you want to play games on 720p medium settings? or at 1080p ultra settings with 60+fps? Or you are an enthusiast and want to play at 4k with 60+fps?

These are the questions you must ask yourself and then proceed to buy a graphics card. If you buy a gtx 1080 Ti which is a 4k graphics card and use it on an 1080p monitor then you have wasted your $700. You must research and take a look at your expectations and need. Also, see if you want to upgrade your PC in future or not or if you will do multi-GPU configuration.

4. Brand selection: There are number of brands that manufacture the graphics cards with different types of heatsinks and coolers. Most dominant are EVGA, MSI, ASUS, Gigabyte, Zotac and Sapphire. There are some other brands too but you should only consider graphics cards from the mentioned vendors because they have exceptional performance and great support. Coolers on EVGA, MSI and ASUS graphics cards are best. Therefore you should also consider this in mind before proceeding to buy a gpu to see if you can run your PC cooler.
